I need to congratulate you on such a fantastically crafted book; so instantly dovetails with the huge numbers of programs out there but distils them into a logical, user friendly way.
As the Wellbeing co-ordinator at my school I trialled the “Zone In” journals with a group of students and conducted a pre and post Social Emotional Wellbeing (SEW) survey. The results were so impressive that my principal rolled out the “Zone In” books for all Year 3 to Year 6 students at our school. The kids love their journals and regularly choose a journal activity to upload onto Seesaw to show their parents.
I purchased your book “In the Zone” at the School Psychologist Conference last year. It is a wonderful book – congratulations.
The In the Zone journals were a valuable addition to our Year 8 Health Program. Students were excited to be able to practice what they learnt in class and were motivated by the daily entries. Many students who noted prior issues with managing their stress fed back that the journals had been really helpful in creating a daily resilience routine and some parents even contacted the school asking for more copies for siblings and to repeat the process after 21 days. The journals were aesthetically pleasing and appropriate for the teenage mind and served as an excellent starting point to create positive habits in the challenging teenage years.
The NUTHA Way project purchased 12 copies of the ‘In the Zone’ books to be incorporated into Care Packs that were sent to at risk Indigenous kids during the Covid Lock Down. We were unable to run the program in Coolgardie due to restrictions so the care packs were used as a way to spark activities we could do with the kids over Zoom. The books were a great way for us to engage with the kids and spark conversations about mental health and well-being. The books continue to be used by the kids and elders in the community and have been an amazing resource for the program. I have also used the books with my own kids and believe all kids should have these books.
I gave the Zone In book to my son Barney when he was in Year 5, it made a huge difference to his ability to notice his own reactions, he began to be able to talk about his feelings rather than just get frustrated and upset. He is now in Year 7 and has just decided it is time to reread it.
I found my daughter Charlotte upstairs on the balcony doing some watercolour painting in her wellbeing journal. She said ‘ I’m doing my journal … I love it mum!’ How’s that for teen feedback. Thanks for the great book.
